Places I want to see!

Kategoria: Yleinen

Greece

One thing I’m interested in is ancient Greek and Roman mythology. Greece has lots of temples like the temple of my favorite Olympian god Apollo in Delphi and the Temple of Poseidon in Sounion. Greece has a colorful history and is known as the cradle of western civilization. One of the most popular Greek myths is The Odyssey, written by Homer. It’s a story about a Greek hero, Odyssey. One of my favorite stories is the story of Achilles (a Greek war hero, the son of a sea nymph and a Greek king) and his lover Patroclus.Apollo Temple in Delphi, Greece | Greeka

Other than my interest in the myths, the things calling me to Greece are simple. The beauty of the islands, the iconic white cities, blue waters and the absolutely delicious Greek food. Gyros, a pita stuffed with grilled chicken, onions, tzatziki sauce, lettuce and fried potatoes, doesn’t that sound delicious? That paired with a cold drink, the warmth of the sun and the idyllic narrow streets to browse, sounds like the perfect vacation for me.Gyro vs. Shawarma: What's the Difference?

I’d love to spend forever swimming in the clear blue waters of Greece, bathing in the sun and letting the refreshing water wash off my worries. I would probably take my friends to Greece with me. Exploring the cities, the restaurants and the ancient history with them, and relaxing in the warmth with them seems like a good bonding experience. The Giola Lagoon in Greece » TwistedSifter

The movie Mamma Mia was filmed in Skopelos, a small island of Greece. Some of the filming locations would be amazing to see, since I quite like the movie.Mamma Mia! | Film Locations

The United Kingdom

England

London has been on my to-go-to list for ages. I’ve wanted to go there ever since I found out the Warner Bros Studio Tour is there. Me and my friends used to dream about going there when we were in our biggest Harry Potter phase. Obviously, I’m not so into Harry Potter anymore, but I’d still love to see the Warner Bros Studio. The movie props look so cool! There’s also stuff like the Diagon Alley I want to see and stuff like butterbeer I want to try (even though I’ve heard it’s not very good).

Of course there’s the Big Ben, the Buckingham Palace and the Tower Bridge that I’m sure would be worth seeing.

My parents have actually promised that we’ll go to London eventually. They’ve both been there and when I ask, they say they don’t see any reason why we wouldn’t go.

My mom watched Downton Abbey and loved it! I recently saw a documentary about the Highclere Castle where the show was filmed and I thought it would be nice to take my mom there. The Castle looked amazing, and especially during Christmas when there’s the big  decorated Christmas tree. Although visiting during summer would be nice too, since the gardens looked amazing.

Scotland

My mom would no doubt want to take me to castle hopping to Scotland. She loves old architecture and she’s actually the one who planned our entire trip to Rome.

Spain

I’ve been to Spain like seven times already, but still I keep wanting to go back. Me and my brother have been going to Spain with my cousin and her family every summer for as long as I can properly remember.

Every year we go to the same house in Fuengirola, near Malaga. We drive the same highway, take all the same turns and drive up the same insanely abrupt hill. I always get so excited to realize I recognize the way and know exactly where we are. It’s so nice to spend a week there, in the warm sun with a pool thirty feet away from the house. I can’t even count how many times I have driven past this traffic circle and this sign.

If I were to visit Spain again I’d like to visit some bigger cities like Valencia, Madrid or Barcelona. In Spain there’s good weather, good food and nice people.

In Barcelona I’d like to visit the Sagrada Familia, the beautiful holy cathedral. I have an online friend in Barcelona who I’d like to see.  The 37 Michelin stars in Barcelona tempt me. I’d love to walk along the Las Ramblas, the biggest street in Barcelona at nightfall.

Antoni Gaudi
In Madrid the nightlife and the food are to die for, I’ve heard. One of my dreams is to go on an exchange year in Madrid. I love the idea of an all year around summer. Imagine if I left mid July while it’s still warm in Finland and I went to Spain. Then I came back next June and it would be summer again in Finland.
Madrid
Valencia looks so beautiful! It’s said to be the birthplace of paella. I could definitely go for some paella with chicken, but definitely not the one with shrimp, clams and stuff. The Old Town, which is called El Carmen in Valencia, the heart of the city is definitely a place I’d want to visit one day.
I really like warm places.

The United States of America

New York
Ah, New York. The Times Square, The Empire State Building, The Statue of Liberty. If I were to visit New York, I’d definitely want to go with my cousin. She’s exactly the type of big city girl suited for New York. We’d ride the yellow taxis, walk along the Fifth Avenue and try all the street food people are always talking about.
Just like Tokyo, New York is the kind of big city I love. The lights, the life, New York is The City That Never Sleeps.
I’d definitely want to visit some of the spots from some of my favorite TV series located in New York, like Brooklyn 99 and Gossip Girl.

Hawaii
The reasons I’d like to see Hawaii are simple; the beaches, the warmth, the food and the nature. I’d want to rent a beach house and explore the nature, maybe go on some hikes, like the Wailua Canyon hike or the Kalalau Trail. Or maybe drive the Hana Highway. Hawaii is also a place i wouldn’t want to go alone to.
Imagine how boring it would be to swim and hike alone. There would be nobody to share the delicious foods with either.
This sunset beach energy is the kind of relaxation I need.
This sunset beach energy is the kind of relaxation I need. Other cities and sights in the United States are California, Chicago and San Francisco. The Grand Canyon and Disneyland would be fun to see too, Disneyland preferably while my head can still stand all the rides.

France

I’ve been to France once, in Saint Raphael in Frejus. We even visited Monaco. I don’t remember much of it, except the huge pool we had at the house and the pool cleaning guy had an adorable little dog. We were there with my family and my mom’s parents.
This time, I’d probably want to see Paris. It’s arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I’d want to go during fall, at the end of September maybe, when it’s not too hot but not yet too chilly.
Fall in Paris looks so nice. All the different colors of leaves and stuff. The Eifel tower is definitely a must see for most of the people visiting Paris, including me. I would love to see it just so I can say I have.

I would have to visit here. It’s from a show I used to love when I was younger. This bakery is the home of Marinette Dupain Cheng. And I’ve heard the desserts are so good too! It would be just amazing to see it in real life.
Most of all I’d just love to eat in the little cafes and taste every pastry I can get my hands on. The last time I was in France I ate nothing but pasta carbonara, so I’d like to try something else the next time. Like maybe authentic french crepes.
Teddy Bear Bun Baking Kit - Kids Baking Kit - Honeywell Biscuit Co
The last time I was there, there was this cute bakery right down the road from our house and we bought these amazing buns filled with chocolate every morning. They were shaped like teddy bears and they had different faces every morning. I heard it depended on how the cook was feeling, and they were the size of my head! They looked kind of like these ones but they were a lot bigger and didn’t have the white stuff.
In France there are lots of smaller cities and villages that I’d love to see. We visited a small village near Frejus the last time we were there, and it had a lavender field. My mom bought two little bags of lavender there and we have them in our wardrobes. It always smells so nice when I open the closet door.
Of course I’d love to see the other major tourist attractions besides the Eifel Tower too, like the Louvre Museum, the Palace of Versailles and the Notre-Dame. For my trip to Paris I’d probably want to take one of my friends or my cousin again.
The Notre-Dame.

Brazil (and Peru)

I feel like there’s so much to see in Brazil. There’s the beaches, the waterfalls, the Amazon, the carnivals, the culture and football. So much to do!
What draws me in the most is definitely the beaches and the annual Carnival in Rio De Janeiro held every year before lent. The music, the costumes, the dancing and the parade all seem like an experience worth it.

Again, the blue waters, the warm sand and the sun tempt me. The beaches in Brazil are apparently ”to die for”. In my imagination I can see myself lazing around all day, doing nothing and bathing in the warm sun. I want my only worry to be where to eat next and if I should go swimming or not.
Even though the Amazon rainforest tours cost a fortune I’d die for one. It would be so cool to get even a little glimpse of the 55 million years old forest. The nature left untouched looks so pretty.

Speaking of nature, the Iguazu waterfalls in Iguazu river near the border of Argentina look breathtaking. That’s definitely a sight I wouldn’t mind seeing once in a lifetime.
 •
I probably wouldn’t want to visit Brazil alone. I think every trip would be boring without anyone to share my thoughts with and suffer with when everything doesn’t go according to the plans.

Peru
There’s really only one thing I’d like to visit Peru for: the Inca Trail in Southern Peru in the Cusco region. I’ve read that there are some options for which length hikes they offer, and I’d probably choose the 2 day hike. You get to see the nature, and some of the ruins along the way, before ending the hike in Machu Picchu, the ancient Inca City.

Italy

I’ve already been to Italy once. I visited Rome in the late spring of 2022 with my family, my cousin’s family and our grandparents. We saw all the tourist attractions: the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, the Roman Forum, you name it. We also visited the Vatican City and saw all the famous artwork. It was definitely an experience I’ll always remember. One night I went out to eat with my parents and my cousin’s parents. We went to a small restaurant in Trastevere and I had the best steak of my life. It was so good!

For my next trip to Italy, I’ve already promised to my best friend we’ll go see Crema in Lombardy of Italy. One of their favorite movies was filmed there.

Crema is only like under 50km to east from Milan, so we could definitely fly to the Milan Airport and go to Crema by train. Maybe we’ll stay in crema for a couple of nights before going back to Milan. There’s nothing particular in Milan I’d like to see. Just browsing around a new city sounds good for me. Eating the local food and seeing some of the must see tourist attractions like the Duomo Cathedral and Leonardo Da Vinci’s legacy. Maybe if we luck out and plan in advance we can go see an opera in the Teatro alla Scala.

The Teatro alla Scala

Another place in Italy I want to visit some day is Sicily. The blue water and the charming towns look so inviting. I’d love a classic beach vacation in Sicily. Lounging at the beach all day, swimming in the water to cool off and having good food in the evening.

I love the idea of me and some of my friends maybe renting a house somewhere in the coast of Sicily for a week or two and spending the days at the beach and the evenings eating out.
 •
Of course, I’d love to see anything in Italy. I might go backpacking there just to taste every possible food and see every cute town. I’ll have to learn at least a little bit of the language before I go though.

Japan

For as long as I can remember I’ve liked to watch anime. That was the first thing that piqued my interest in Asia, specifically Japan.
Howl's Moving Castle – Golden Age Cinema and Bar
Howl’s Moving Castle, (ハウルの動く城, in Japanese) is one of my all time favorite animated films. The Animation is beautiful and the story is interesting. It is also one of the first animated films that I ever saw.
Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings with Cabbage (猪肉煎饺)| Two Plaid Aprons
The second thing to draw my attention to this county was the food. It looks so delicious! Me and my mom have cooked a lot of Japanese foods lately, like dumplings, sweet and sour chicken. Also Chinese dumplings, gyozas. Dumplings are these dough balls filled with (usually) meat and vegetables. Then they’re either pan fried or steamed.
They’re so juicy and flavorful. The sauce is typically soy sauce based and salty. It goes well with the meat usually inside the dumplings. So good!
Some of the cities I’d like to visit are Tokyo, Kyoto, Hokkaido.
Tokyo just seems to have everything. One place I’d like to see just out of curiosity is the world’s busiest intersection, the Shibuya Crossing. I can just imagine riding the trains and roaming the streets filled with neon signs shining in the dark and eating delicious food. I love the street lights and signs shining in the dark even if it’s just Kuopio. It makes me feel like I’m in a big city, which if I was in Tokyo would be true.
Japan declares state of emergency in Tokyo area - News Live
For a trip to Tokyo I’d definitely want to reserve at least three whole days just to see as much as possible. There’s also lots of culture in Tokyo, and I’d definitely want to participate in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony and wear some traditional clothes.
